Predictive value of platelet parameters and peripheral blood cell ratios for abdominal aortic calcification of peritoneal dialysis patients

    • Objective To explore the associations between platelet parameters or peripheral blood cell ratios and abdominal aortic calcification(AAC) in peritoneal dialysis(PD) patients. Methods For this cross-sectional study,153 PD patients undergoing a dialysis adequacy test from August 2019 to February 2020 were recruited. Demographic profiles, laboratory parameters and abdominal computed tomography(CT) scans were analyzed. Results Among them,83(54.24%) patients were divided into AAC group with higher platelet distribution width(PDW) as well as lower lymphocyte/monocyte ratio(LMR). Multivariable Logistic regression revealed that higher age(OR=1.192),longer PD vintage(OR=1.035),greater PDW(OR=1.482),higher calcium(OR=70.751) and higher phosphate(OR=14.436) were associated with higher risks of AAC while higher serum albumin(OR=0.865) denoted a lower probability of AAC. Conclusion Among different platelet parameters and peripheral blood cell ratios, higher PDW is independently associated with AAC in PD patients. Clinically age,PD vintage, serum albumin, calcium and phosphate along with PDW may be combined for evaluating the risks of AAC.
