Abstract
Ambulatory surgery provides a new type of medical service for patients with its high efficiency, superior quality and low expenditure. Vascular access is a lifeline of maintenance hemodialysis patients. Any malfunction should be resolved quickly and efficiently, otherwise life is threatened. This is consistent with the concept of ambulatory surgery. Furthermore, creation and maintenance of vascular access involves many types of operations so that performing ambulatory surgery is not only in line with the characteristics of vascular access, but also offers greater social and economic benefits. Currently ambulatory surgery in China has remained in its infancy. Ambulatory surgery of hemodialysis vascular access is only performed at some select hospitals and has not been popularized so far owing to a lack of standardized procedures, consensuses and guidelines. For fostering the development and popularization of ambulatory vascular access during surgical hospitalization, our department summarized clinical practices based upon the latest literature and domestic status and drafted this recommendation.
