Research progress on biomarkers of progression of diabetic nephropathy

    • Diabetic nephropathy(DN)is a common and serious complication of diabetes which has become the main cause of renal replacement therapy. In recent years, the prevalence of this disease has increased dramatically around the world and has become a leading cause of end-stage renal disease and a serious public health problem affecting human health.Microalbuminuria has been recognized as an early marker of renal glomerular and vascular injury and DN progression. However, existing clinical studies reveal that, not all diabetic patients with microalbuminuria will develop into end-stage renal failure. Therefore, traditional biomarkers still have some defects in judging the progression of diabetic nephropathy. And hence, exploring the new biological markers of DN progression or non-progression and achieving accurate diagnosis and treatment of DN are the concerns of nephrologists. In this paper, the possible biomarkers of DN progression in recent years are reviewed.
