Abstract
α-Klotho is an anti-aging protein, which has been reported to bind with fibroblast growth factor receptor-1 (FGFR1) to become a transmembrane co-receptor of fibroblastic growth factor-23(FGF23), thereby mediating FGF23/FGFR1/Klotho signaling to play a key role in anti-aging and balance calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Recent studies on serum soluble α-Klotho are concerned extensively. Studies have shown that serum soluble α-Klotho(sKL) regulates multiple signaling pathways in chronic kidney diseases (CKD) to protect the structure of podocytes, inhibit oxidative stress, reduce tissue fibrosis and regulate the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus. It plays an important role in protecting renal function in CKD patients, delaying disease progression, and acting as a biomarker.
