    Investigation of quality of life, negative emotions and coping styles in chronic kidney disease patients with maintenance hemodialysis

    • Objective To analyze the status quo of quality of life, negative emotions and coping styles in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing maintenance hemodialysis(MHD), so as to provide relevant reference for improving the mental health and quality of life of such patients. Methods This study was designed as a cross-sectional study. A total of 284 patients with chronic kidney disease treated in Hemodialysis Center of Chongqing Fengdu County People's Hospital from January 2014 to December 2018 were selected by convenient sampling. They were assessed by The WHO Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-100), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ). Results With respect to quality of life,The scores of MHD patients in general quality of life and health status, physiological field, psychological field, independent field, social relationship field and environmental field were lower than those of normal people's norm (P<0.05), and the scores of independent items of spiritual pillar and personal belief were higher than those of normal people's norm (P<0.05). Further comparing the scores of each item between MHD patients with Chronic kidney disease and normal subjects, we found that there were differences between the scores of other items and those of the norm group (P<0.05), except for the items of positive feelings and traffic conditions. With respect to psychological status, the prevalence of anxiety in MHD patients with chronic kidney disease was 71.1%. The prevalence of mild and moderate anxiety (172 cases, 60.6%) and depression (73.9%) were the main types (182 cases, 64.1%). With respect to coping modes, the average scores of facing-with factor, avoidance factor and yield factor in MHD patients with chronic kidney disease decreased in turn. Conclusions The quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease treated by maintenance hemodialysis is low, there are certain psychological problems, mainly mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Most patients still face with the disease positively.
