Investigation and analysis of sleep quality in maintenance hemodialysis patients

    • Objective To investigate the quality of sleep in maintenance hemodialysis patients and analyze the influencing factors of sleep disorders. Methods A total of 150 hemodialysis patients were investigated by Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) to assess the sleep quality. Global scores of these questionnaires were analyzed. A comparison between "good" (global PSQI ≤ 5) and "bad" (global PSQI >5) sleepers was done to analyze the reasons for sleep disturbances. Results 54.66% maintenance hemodialysis patients were "bad" sleepers (global PSQI >5). Age, dialysis vintage, hemoglobin, PTH and Kt/V showed significant differences between two groups (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in albumin and UF between two groups (P>0.05). Conclusions Sleep problem is common in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Older age, longer dialysis vintage, anemia and higher PTH, lower Kt/V are risk factors for poor sleep quality.
