A single-center clinical risk factors of the death patients with maintenance hemodialysis

    • Objective To investigate the mortality, hemodialysis duration and the death causes of maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients in Lanzhou General Hospital of Chinese PLA Lanzhou Military Command from 2012 to 2016.Methods The information data of MHD patients during 2012-2016 were obtained from blood purification data system. Of all 276 patients with MHD, the age ranged 16-79 years (mean 50.8±17.2). The mortality, hemodialysis duration and the death causes of MHD patients were analyzed. Results The mortality of MHD patients during 2012-2014 was 12.06%, 16.39% and 16.35%, respectively, and it was decreased to 10.62% in 2015 and 8.13% in 2016.The hemodialysis vintage of patients was 0-252 months (mean 28 months). The dead patients with MHD for more than 5 years could be only accounted for 12.81%. The underling-diseases of the dead patients with MHD were diabetic mellitus (52.25%), glomeruloneohritis (27.03%), hypertension (15.32%) and malignancy (8.11%). The leading causes of mortality were cardiovascular events (36.03%), infections (27.21%), cerebrovascular events (11.76%), malnutrition (5.88%), malignancy (3.68%) and hemorrhagic disease (2.94%).Conclusions The mortality of MHD patients is 8.13% to 16.39% from 2012 to 2016. Age and hemodialysis adequacy were critical factors for mortality. Diabetic mellitus was the main underlying disease of MHD patients. Cardiovascular events, infections and cerebralvascular events are the leading death causes of patients with MHD.
