Abstract: Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by the host's maladjustment to infection. Kidney is one of the common target organs of severe sepsis with a high incidence rate and worse prognosis. If an early diagnosis is made in time, it can significantly boost the difficulty of treatment and mortality, enhance the utilization rate of renal replacement therapy(RRT), prolong the length of stay in intensive care unit(ICU), increase medical expenditures and consume medical resources. Therefore an early diagnosis and timely intervention may be the key to improving the prognosis of septic patients. Currently there are some limitations in the diagnostic criteria depending upon serum creatinine and urine volume. Therefore it is imperative to identify accurate and effective early biomarkers in critical care medicine. This review summarized popular biomarkers for making an early diagnosis of sepsis during acute kidney injury.
